Gene Hackman, 95, and his wife Betsy Arakawa, 63, were found dead in their Santa Fe home, along with one of their dogs.
The discovery was made by a community caretaker, and authorities are investigating the cause of death, though foul play is not suspected. Some pills were found near Betsy, and Hackman appeared to have fallen suddenly, leading to speculation about carbon monoxide poisoning, but no evidence of it was found.
Hackman, a celebrated actor with two Oscars and BAFTAs, retired in 2009 due to health concerns, quietly stepping away from the spotlight. He was married to Arakawa since 1991 and had three children from his previous marriage to Faye Maltese.
