THIS IS HOW WE DRINK OUR COFFEE—THEN SOME GO TO WORK WHILE THE OTHERS BACK TO SLEEP

Every morning at our house starts the same: I make my coffee, throw on my old baseball cap, and like clockwork, Milo the cat climbs onto my head as if reporting for duty. While the rest of the family scrambles to find keys and pack lunches, I sit there with a coffee mug in one hand and a kitten making biscuits on my scalp. It’s chaotic, hilarious, and honestly one of my favorite parts of the day.

One morning, right in the middle of this beautiful mess, my phone buzzed. It was a message from Derek, an old friend I hadn’t heard from in a while, offering me a job lead with a tech startup. It wasn’t what I was looking for—or even something I thought I was qualified for—but something told me to call him back.

After talking it through and a lot of second-guessing, I took the leap. The first few months were tough. I felt out of my depth, learning fast and working harder than I had in years. Just when I was starting to find my footing, I got an email saying the project I was working on was shutting down. I thought the opportunity I had risked so much for was gone.

But sometimes, life has a funny way of setting you up when you least expect it. After reaching out to the company directly, they offered me a new role—an even bigger opportunity to help launch a new project internationally. What had felt like a failure turned out to be a stepping stone to something even better.

Through all of it—good days, rough days—Milo stayed my constant morning companion, purring away on my head like nothing had changed. Those small, absurd moments remind me that even when life feels uncertain, there’s always something simple and good holding you steady.

If you’re facing a tough turn in life, hang in there. Sometimes the hardest detours lead you exactly where you’re meant to go.
