The wife of a passenger on the ill-fated American Airlines flight, Hamaad Raza, revealed her final text before the crash. She had messaged him, “Landing in 20 minutes,” but he later realized that other texts hadn’t been delivered. The flight, American Eagle Flight 5342, collided with a US Army helicopter near Washington, D.C. at around 9 p.m. on January 29. The crash sent both aircraft into the Potomac River.
The flight had 60 passengers and four crew members, and the helicopter carried three military personnel. Rescue efforts, hindered by icy waters and dangerous conditions, are ongoing, with 300 rescuers deployed. American Airlines has expressed concern for those aboard, and President Trump has extended his condolences.
