I never expected my best friend, Jake, to uninvite my girlfriend, Emily, to his wedding. We had been through everything together—college, breakups, and more. But when I opened the wedding invitation, I saw my name alone. No plus-one, no Emily.
Confused, I texted Jake, and his reply was chilling: “Not a mistake. We need to talk.” It turned out that one of the bridesmaids, Lisa, had a crush on me and was jealous of Emily. Jake and Clare had decided to exclude Emily to avoid drama at the wedding.
I was furious. Emily and I had been together for three years, and this was beyond disrespectful. After a tense confrontation with Jake and Clare, I walked away from the wedding—and from their friendship.
When I told Emily, she was incredulous. “So they’re doing all this to appease some delusional woman?” she said. I didn’t regret my decision at all.
The wedding went downhill. Lisa had a massive meltdown, destroying the cake and causing chaos. By the time the cops arrived, the wedding was a disaster. Meanwhile, Emily and I enjoyed a peaceful night at home.
Jake learned his lesson.
